The highlight of Mascagni's one act opera, the Easter Hymn is here arranged with three female vocal lines and a generic baritone part, making it very user friendly compared with the original much more complex score. Whilst the latin liturgy is maintained in the introduction, the main part of the song reflects the correlative tale of the phoenix rising from the ashes, rather than the biblical Easter story.
The finale is a grand and inspirational Hallelujah. The solo and/or trio could be sung by a choir of treble voices, making this a very suitable piece for festival or graduation occasions.
